Affiliate marketing is simple to start, but not always easy to succeed in. The real challenge isn’t just promoting a link, it’s helping people who join under you succeed.
In this article, I’ll share some personal lessons and success tips that can help you grow in any affiliate marketing program, especially those where people “join under you.”
Remember that when someone has joined under you in a program, it’s a great idea to think in terms of… “If you Join Under Me, You have Joined with me”. It’s a journey to be taken as a group.
The BIG Gotcha in Affiliate Marketing.
So here is the Scenario… You’ve discovered a wonderful System and you’ve gone through the “onboarding” and watched and taken notes on all the lessons. Now you are ready to start promoting it…
It’s super exciting!
And you land your very first signup, and they ask you…”What do I do?”
Now remember, that when someone first joins something, it can be a big “WHOAH” moment for them… And if this isn’t their first time they joined such a system, this might be the very reason why they “Skip and Jump” between programs.
What you need to do is to help “Guide” them along. It might just be the fact that they know you are there for them, that gives them enough incentive to “Dig In” and actually take a look.
Learn and Document Your Affiliate Marketing System
This might sound silly, but what you need to do before you start any promotions is to spend some time really getting to know the system you are promoting.
And one very important thing to note is… remember that what you are doing is exactly what your “New Member” is going to be going through.
So as I said before, it’s a very good idea to take lots of notes as you go through the initial training and to take notes on your thoughts about your experiences… Things such as…What you liked… What you didn’t like… How could it be improved… and also any questions that you have…
It’s this “thought process” that helps you and also helps you see from a new person’s perspective what the process is.
I’d strongly suggest that you create a new Document… A Google Doc is a good idea, as this is something you can share later on…
Take Screenshots of each stage and add them as you go. It’s like you are making your own “mini” training guide. It could be something you can pass onto your new members to help and inspire them.
Bonus Tip: Record Your Affiliate Onboarding
Just a side note: What would be even more useful… is to “Record’ the whole experience from the initial signup all the way to logging into the system… Again it can just be screenshots as you go but you could record the desktop and use the video to create screenshots later on… It can help big time in giving you lots of options in documenting the whole process.
And I bring this up because I had to go back and go through the whole signup process again just so I could see what the “First time” looks like from a New Members perspective…
Especially if you upgrade later and what you see is MORE than what they see and it’s hard to remember what they are seeing… If you see what I mean 🙂
So when you are asked… What should I do next… If they are not sharing their screen with you, at least you’ll have that all in front of you from your documentation.
AND your new members are not going to be doing this… So if you have something you can provide them with for their new members, they are going to love you for it… There is nothing Worse than “not knowing something” you should know.
Is Team Building Important in Affiliate Marketing?
Well YES!
BUT it does not mean that you have to become a team builder yourself… If you become part of a “Good Team” you’ll have access to your “Team Builder”.
Do You Need to Build a Team to Succeed?
IF your “Program” is run by someone that constantly shows up and is extremely active online, then that alone might be all your “New Members” need…
The more successful programs are those that have a very active community… Plus one where people are constantly showing the rest of “their wins”…
Does Team Support Really Help in Affiliate Marketing?
Now some members in the program I am in, have really taken the “Team Building” to the extreme and as you would expect, they are going absolutely nuts with signups and sales… As this is all about support and team work as well as individual effort.
I won’t mention names but she (and a few others) have taken this on and are going absolutely gangbusters…
BUT you do what you feel comfortable with. If you manage to get into such a group, you just have to join in and bring in your own people.
So does it help? Yes it can.
You Don’t Need to Be a Mentor to Succeed
The person running the program is the Mentor… Let’s say, they are the “Bus Driver” and you are a passenger who invites others as passengers and together you are going on this journey together… So it’s not about you becoming a mentor… You are just someone that’s been and seen a few more things on the bus that you can share with those who have recently joined.
Why Helping Others Boosts Your Success
I’ve had folks hit me up and say “hey do you want to see this great program I am in?” and knowing what it is, I’ve had to take them aside and just let them know, that’s not the way we’ve been taught to promote it… None of this in your face stuff… And he wasn’t in my team, but he did need a little talking too but I commend him on his enthusiasm… Later he messaged me to thank me as he was starting to get “real responses”… That in a nutshell is What I Really Love… Seeing folks getting results… and all it took was about 15 minutes on a Messenger Call just to talk about it…
Choose Your Level in Your Affiliate Marketing Journey
Now you can be just a passenger, or step up to be a “Tour Guide” and who knows… maybe down the track you might be driving your own bus… But that’s something way down the track.
What you need to do is…
Learn the System, Implement the Steps and Start Earning… and help others where you can OR ask those you know will help you, help someone…
Successful Affiliate Programs Have Support Systems
From the program owners, to the support team, to the members… Everyone should be there to support you.
BUT you DO NEED TO REACH OUT… Don’t ever be shy… Whatever it is that might be causing confusion… simply ask… That moment you hesitate because you are not sure.. that’s when you ask… “Hey I know this might sound silly but I don’t quite understand X”.
It’s never silly to ask any question, no matter what you think. It’s absolutely silly if you don’t ask.
Choose the Right Affiliate Program
Well that speaks for itself… From all the interactions I’ve had with everyone from my own team along with everyone else on ‘this bus’, all having and sharing their successes makes for one great Bus Ride. And let’s not forget the Bus Driver behind all of this…
So whatever Bus you are on, or whoever your Bus Driver is… I hope this has at least given you some thoughts into how you can see real success in the Affiliate Program you are in and promoting.
Happy and Safe Travels!
