(Well it applies to “any and everything” really…)
Procrastination
Now good ole “Procrastination” sits right at the top of this list.
That’s the “I’ll do it tomorrow” or “Can’t right now, there will be time later”… and on and on it goes.
Now there are two main causes of this:
Number 1: Just being too lazy and
Number 2: Being so overwhelmed you just have to put things off, or things are just going wrong.
Number 1, well we can’t do too much about that one. Whereas
Number 2, can be dealt with.
So there is a lot of Scope to bringing about a lot of Hope!
Perfectionism
This is my favorite as it’s one I’m always battling with… To the point, if I see something that’s been released and it’s not quite right, it Pushes my Buttons so hard they pop through the other side never to be seen again… Ok, well maybe a slight exaggeration but still.
Something is “Better Out There” than sitting in your Head, your Laptop, in fact anywhere else than it should be…
Now of course you should be Testing everything you can. There are steps you can take to make sure that the “mechanical digital” bits ( yes that’s a thing now…) are doing their Mechanically Digitally bits correctly.
By that, a signup form should let you sign up and have the “Lead” end up on your List… That kind of thing.
The Digital Bits that don’t really matter are “What colors are my headers?”, “Have I spelt that word right”, “Will my Grammer and poor use of words come back to haunt me?” or “Should I have written these here as bullet points”… Those are things “Us” Perfectionists Insist on getting right… “Oh no, do I have to go back and make these bullet points… Oh I can later…”
The Big Takeaway is… Just Get it Out there…
Over Complication!
Now we are talking… Give me something simple and I’ll have so many other things I can do to improve it, have it doing the ironing and what ever else sounds fantastic…
Which really comes down to… Just Do It. I’m seeing a theme here 🙂
Sometimes I think that’s a little bit of the “Oh let’s see how clever I am…” When the reality if you take someone off the street ( so to speak, but you could as it will help them ) and they had never seen a Laptop and PC and all you had to do was to give them plain clear instructions… They’ll beat the pants off anyone that’s still planning and waiting for the paint to dry and the new Whatsamacallit Thingamejig to arrive and on and on…
No! Plain and Simple wins the race. What works works. Even with the Advent of A.I and all the sparkly new tools out there… Simple will always win… Although A.I is a great time saver…
Are you a Victim of these?
Well I’ll put my hand up for all 3 of the above… The Trick here is to actually realise that you are doing them. Catch them happening before they consume too much time and be able to sit back and go “WHAO Nelly”, that’s just going too far…
But if you struggle and suffer due to not knowing what to do, the nice simple ways you can do it then stick around. It’s time to slap those 3 Little Gremlins in the chops and send them scampering…
And on that note, I’m off to bed…
